What is Hair Loss

The reason behind the psychological distress in most of the people nowadays is ALOPECIA/BALDNESS. The severity of hair loss ranges from a small area to the entire body. In most cases scarring is not seen. Types of hair loss: alopecia areata, male pattern baldness, female pattern baldness, telogen effluvium.

What is the Causes of hair loss?
  • ALOPECIA AREATA: Autoimmune
  • MALE PATTERN HAIRLOSS: the hair loss in men is a combination of genetics and hormones. This is also called androgenic alopecia. This is a genetic condition in which the hair follicles shrink and lose because of the male hormone Dihydrotestosterone.
  • FEMALE PATTERN BALDNESS: the exact reason behind the pattern hair loss in females is still unclear. Telogen effluvium in females can be post-pregnancy.
  • Other non-scarring hair loss problems may be due to malnutrition, chemotherapy, hypothyroidism, HIV/AIDS. Hair loss with scars can be seen in radiation therapy, fungal infections, sarcoidosis.
